Swansea Acupuncture Project

Aims

Swansea Acupuncture Project (SAP) aims to provide an effective and responsive acupuncture service at a sliding cost, so that it is affordable to all members of society.

History

SAP was started by Alex Wood in 2007. After working on several affordable community acupuncture clinics in London and Brighton, he decided to take these pioneering and successful models and set up SAP.

The clinic was hosted by Caer Las Housing Association at the Connect Project- a day center for adults with long term mental health difficulties. Alex offered treatment at a sliding cost enabling Connect members, staff and the general public the opportunity to experience and benefit from Chinese Medicine.

Present Day

In 2012 SAP moved to the Natural Health Service to work alongside Project Sol (a charity offering free homeopathy to disadvantaged members of the community) In keeping with the spirit of this ethos the Natural Health Service is now a non profit making organization and is currently applying for Social Enterprise Status.

Together SAP, Project Sol and the Natural Health Service aim to encourage a growing understanding of complementary medicine within society and build a foundation from which complementary medicine can become integrated into public health.
